Overview
The Future Investment Initiative is an international investment platform launched by the Public Investment Fund in the city of Riyadh in 2017, with the aim of bringing together leaders and innovators to explore solutions of tangible impact.[1]
The Future Investment Initiative Institute was established in 2019 as a global non-profit institution with an investment arm that translates ideas into projects, and the Public Investment Fund took part as a founding partner in launching the initiative and extending its reach.[1]
Establishment and Launch
The Public Investment Fund announced that the first edition of the Future Investment Initiative would be held in Riyadh from 24 to 26 October 2017 under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.[2]
The technological change theme was among the most prominent of the first edition, whose programme included a high-level forum on artificial intelligence and robotics, with the participation of global chief executives, experts and government officials.[2]
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz described the initiative as one of the Public Investment Fund's initiatives, and as an international platform for building partnerships and discussing ideas rather than a conference held for a few days, and called for making it an annual occasion for meeting.[3]
The second edition was held in Riyadh from 23 to 25 October 2018 under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, chaired by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Investment Fund.[4]
Editions and International Summits
The Institute organised the Global Priority Summit in Miami on 31 March 2023, with a programme of 10 sessions attended by about 80 leadership figures.[5]
In 2024, the eighth edition of the initiative in Riyadh witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Public Investment Fund and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority for joint investment in a new investment fund with a target value of up to one billion US dollars.[7]
The ninth edition of the conference was held in Riyadh from 27 to 30 October 2025 under the slogan 'Key to Prosperity'.[8]
Investment Impact
The value of investments in agreements, contracts and deals over seven years of the initiative reached about 120 billion US dollars, before the seventh edition was held in Riyadh from 24 to 26 October 2023.[6]
The ninth edition signed agreements and investment pledges worth more than 50 billion US dollars, covering artificial intelligence, advanced technology, renewable energy and infrastructure.[8]
By November 2025, the platform had enabled cumulative deals worth more than 250 billion US dollars since its launch.[8]
International Presence
The ninth edition saw the participation of more than 9,000 delegates, 600 media professionals and 2,000 member participants, alongside 650 speakers and 20 heads of state across 250 discussion sessions, the largest attendance for the event up to that time.[8]
The event brought together participants from 90 countries, reflecting the breadth of its geopolitical scope and the reach of its international partner network.[8]
The Tenth Edition and Its Postponement
The Institute announced the organisation of the tenth edition of the initiative in Riyadh from 26 to 29 October 2026 under the slogan 'Power of Legacy', celebrating the tenth anniversary of the initiative's launch.[9]
The tenth edition had been scheduled to be held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques at the King Abdulaziz International Conference Centre in Riyadh, and to rest on four themes: capital that builds, technology that elevates, communities that prosper, and leadership that inspires.[10]
On 12 October 2026, the Riyadh Municipality and the Future Investment Initiative Institute announced the signing of a strategic partnership under which the municipality would take part in the conference as 'City Partner'.[11]
On 19 October 2026, the Institute announced the postponement of the holding of the tenth edition to 2027.[12]
