A heritage village in Al-Makhwah, Al-Bahah, on a white rock hill, dating to the end of the tenth century AH and named after the spring that waters its farms.

Location and name

Dhi Ain lies in Al-Makhwah, Al-Bahah Region, on a white rock hill above Wadi Rash, about 25 km from Al-Bahah city, and dates to the end of the tenth century AH. [1]

It is named after a spring that flows from the mountains beneath the village trees, watering kadi, aromatic plants, lemons and bananas. [1]

Architecture

The village has about 85 houses, some five storeys high, built of hard stone from the surrounding mountains and faced with quartz, with mud and mud-brick inside, plus a small mosque and watchtowers. [1]

The Heritage Commission is rehabilitating the village with a view to a future World Heritage nomination. [1]
