Location and geology
Jabal Al-Sawda is the Kingdom's highest peak at 3,015 m, in Asir about 20 km from Abha, part of the Sarawat range that runs from north of Taif to the Yemeni border. [1]
It is made of igneous rocks such as granite and metamorphic gneiss and schist, covered with juniper, acacia and wild olive; monsoon rains expand its pastures and aromatic plants. [1]
Tourism
Al-Sawda is part of Asir National Park; visitors climb, paraglide and camp, and the Aqabat Al-Sama road links the summit to the Tihamah slopes towards Rijal Alma. [1]
